Q. Where/When Will I Get My Race Chip?
A. We will be using Chronotrack B Tag race chips again (attached to your race bib), and they will be distributed with your race packet.
Q. How Does The Timing System Work?
A. We will be using Big River Race Management this year. Start AND finish mats will be provided again to electronically monitor your race time. Therefore, your clock time may not match up with your actual real results. Real time results will be available on site and online. "Unofficial" Instant results will also be available on your phone (via text message & social media updates) and at the finish kiosks. Results will also be posted online.
Q. Do You Need Volunteers?
A. Absolutely! It takes many people to have a successful race. Volunteers are needed for a variety of activities on race day in the Brentwood Towne Square area to help with registration, packet pickup, bib/shirt distribution, finish line activities and plenty more. We can provide verification of service hours for those anyone who needs community service hours. All volunteers also get a t-shirt. If interested, please fill out our contact form.
Q. Where Can I Get a Paper Application?
A. We strongly encourage you to help us be GREEN and register online. It helps eliminate clerical errors and any delays in registration! However, paper applications will be available here on our website in late May.
Q. When Will Applications Be Available?
A. We will have paper applications available in late May. Online Registration will be open in March and we encourage you to register online to eliminate spelling errors, help the environment, save money on entry fees, eliminate delays, and guarantee your entry!
Q. How Do I Register?
A. You can do so online or you may send your paper application (in late May/early June - once available) with a check for payment payable to the Brentwood Firecracker 5k in c/o Brentwood Library at 3501 Brownsville Road Pgh., PA 15227. Applications and payment can also be hand carried to the library. All paper applications must be RECEIVED by June 27th to qualify. Participants can also continue to register online through race day, or in person during packet pickup times (see About The Race for details). Participants can also register on race morning between 7AM and 8:45AM in Brentwood Towne Square but are strongly encouraged to register early online, as this WILL be a sell out race!
Q. How Do I Qualify For The Discounted Race Fee?
A. Entrants must pre register before the Early Bird deadline online to qualify for the discounts.
Q. When And Where Do I Get My Packet?
A. Packets can be picked up in person at various locations the week leading up to the race. Packets will also be available at Brentwood Towne Square on race day from 7AM to 9AM.

Q. What Is The Course?
A. The race begins on Brownsville Road by Brentwood Towne Square and rolls out and back along Brownsville Road which is the same route as the Fourth of July Parade. Check out a map of this year's course online!

Q. I'm A Walker or Slow Runner, Can I Still Participate?
A. YES!! All are welcome and encouraged to participate. We do ask that if you plan on walking that you adhere to a minimum of a 15 minute/mile pace. The race course needs to be clear of all 5k participants no later than 10AM for the start of the Annual 4th of July Parade. If you feel that you will not make that time limit, we ask for your safety that you get off of the road and switch to the sidewalks to complete your race.
Q. Are Strollers Permitted On The Race Course?
A. Yes, we pride ourselves on making this a family friendly event. However, we do ask that you kindly move to the back of the start line, to avoid congestion.
Q. Are Dogs Permitted On The Race Course?
A. We REALLY love dogs! However, dogs may not participate alongside their owners in our race. In order to keep our race safe and enjoyable to all participants, please leave your dog safely at home. There will be thousands of people, loud cannons, and this race begins later than most on a very hot Blacktop surface which can be harmful for dogs. Our only exception is for Service dogs - but they must be certified, must wear their official service-dog vest, and must be on a six-foot (or shorter) leash at all times.The race staff/officials will ask anyone else with a dog to withdrawal from the race.
Q. Where Can I Park?
A. You can park on local side streets. Also, limited parking is available in the rear parking lot only of John F. Slater Funeral Home located near the intersection of Route 51 and Brownsville Road. For the 3rd year, Baldwin High School is offering their lot as well - and you can catch the Firecracker Shuttle provided by our friends at Brentwood Towne Square/Echo Realty
Q. Where Can I Get The Free Shuttle? Our friends at Brentwood Towne Square are sponsoring a FREE shuttle bus for runners! Beginning at 7AM and running a loop through Noon - Parking and shuttle service to Brentwood Towne Square (lower level) will be available at the following location:
Businesses in Brentwood Towne Square WILL be open for business so there is no parking for the race in their parking lot.
Q. Will Pacing Be Available?
A. Yes! We are excited to announce that Steel City Road Runners will be providing a pace team for this year's 5k with the following times: 7:00, 7:30, 8:00, 8:30, 9:00, 9:30, 10:00, 10:30, 11:00, 11:30, 12:00, 13:00
Q. I Am Unable to Participate. Can I Transfer my Registration to Someone Else or Get a Refund?
A. Unfortunately due to the volume of runners that we have, we are unable to accommodate refunds or transfers within 30 days prior to the event.
Q. I Was Unable to Attend and Want To Pick Up My Race Packet - Can I?
A. We have limited space available to us pre/during and post-race for storage of shirts, packets, etc. For that reason, if you are unable to attend the race, you will forfeit your shirt and bib. We have tried for a few years to offer these to anyone who hasn't been able to make it, but it has become difficult with a race this size to make these arrangements.
